Keep wildlife safe

With firework season and Halloween on the way, there’s a lot to look forward to this autumn! Here’s how to have fun the kind way.

Step 1

Find a local display

If you want to watch a firework display, pick a public organised display and suggest to your friends that they do the same. Organised displays allow pet owners to plan ahead, whereas private displays in someone’s back garden can come as a surprise.

If you’re going to watch a display, make sure a pet sitter or grown-up is home to reassure your pet while you’re gone

Step 2

Think differently

You don’t need traditional, noisy fireworks to have fun! Ask your grown-up to look up low-noise or silent fireworks, plus laser light shows and drone light shows. They’re quieter and less likely to frighten animals. Supporting these displays can make a positive difference.

Step 3

Less noise, more fun

If you do decide to celebrate at home, ask your grown-up to buy low-noise fireworks. If your neighbours have pets, let them know when you’re celebrating so they can keep animals indoors. Be sure to safely throw away any litter from your display afterwards.

Ask grown-ups to light fireworks away from trees, ponds, hedgerows, or any other place that could be home to wild animals.

Step 4

Use your voice

We’re calling for new laws that limit when and where fireworks can be let off and

how loud they can be. Ask your grown-up to join our campaign here.
