Reggie’s new home

Abandoned as a poorly pup, this playful chap is now loving life with his new family.

A lucky find

Reggie was just a tiny puppy when he was found. Someone had put him in a rucksack and left him in the woods. Thankfully, some people saw the bag being dumped and rushed Reggie to a nearby vets for help.

Reggie was only eight weeks old, and very weak. His back legs were wobbly and he was struggling to stand. The vet called us in to check to see who might have abandoned such a sickly pup.

Road to recovery

Once Reggie had gained strength at the vets, we moved him to our RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre, where Deputy Manager Liz says he was adored by all the staff and volunteers.

“Reggie was too young to be in kennels alone so I fostered him at home,” she says. “He needed to eat a little and often to get strong again. And he was infested with worms that needed treatment – poor boy. But once we got rid of those he became bright and bouncy and started putting on weight. He got on well with my four dogs and my cat so I knew we’d have no trouble finding him a home – he’s such a friendly pup.”

Happy new home

Today, Reggie’s living his best life, with new owner Danielle and her three children, Fallon, Freya and Greyson.

Danielle’s mum Becky is a volunteer at Millbrook, so she told her about the gorgeous pup in need of a home.

“There was something very special about him,” she says. “He really got on with the kids and my eight-year-old Chihuahua Elsie, who we also adopted from Millbrook.”

When Reggie was 12 weeks old and had been given all his injections, he went to live with his new family – and turned from a quiet puppy into a noisy bundle of fun, says Danielle.

“His favourite thing is to take items from the house – shoes, toys, anything – and put them in the garden, so we have to go out and hunt for them every evening!”

Reggie’s reunion

“It’s so nice seeing how happy Reggie is,” says Lauren, an animal care assistant from Millbrook. “He’s become the cheeky character we knew he could be.”

And Danielle’s children are so proud of their rescue pup.

“They understand how important it is to help animals in need,” Danielle says. “We all feel sad thinking about dogs who don’t have a loving home. So we’re really glad the RSPCA stepped in to rescue Reggie – and that we got the chance to give him all the love and attention he deserves.”
