Roe deer release
When these roe deer fawns (baby deer) were separated from their mums, staff at RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife Centre stepped in. After weeks of bottle feeding, time to explore outdoors, and regular check-ups, these babies were ready for release. Staff moved them to a 'soft release pen' – that's a safe area that helps them get used to their natural habitat. Before long, they took their first steps back into the wild!
Found a baby deer?
Our expert staff have the training they need to care for fawns, but don’t try this at home. Most of the fawns people spot in the wild don’t need rescuing. Roe deer hide their babies while they feed and they usually come back every few hours.
If you spot a fawn in the wild, keep your distance and check back a day later. If the fawn is still there, ask your grown-up to call us on: 0300 1234 999.
